First Communion
Communion is the act of receiving the body of Christ present under the appearance of consecrated bread during Mass. It is the source (as we draw strength from it) and the summit (as we aspire to it) of all Christian life.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. (John 6:56)
First Communion is, as its name suggests, receiving the body of Christ for the first time in the form of a consecrated host by the priest. Communion creates a personal relationship with Christ.
For a Catholic, First Communion is a day of celebration… as are all subsequent communions !
How to do it?
To receive communion, two conditions are necessary :
– to be baptised
– to want to live in friendship with Christ, according to his Gospel and throughout one's life.
Generally, children receive their First Communion between the ages of 8 and 10, but one can receive First Communion at any age ! Adults can also prepare for communion.
